Social Networking Sites

networking sites : good or bad??????

Well obviously social networking sites are the best possible way to stay in touch with people , with whom it is otherwise unrealistic to. Another great thing is that you face to time clash problems , as in messengers and chats , that too with a number of friends. Personally i have been able to reconnect with some people that i lost touch with around 9 or 10 years back.
The only drawback about the whole concept is that people get addicted to it , and this addiction is not very healthy . To talk of others , i myself spend a lot of time facebooking  , sometimes a lot more than needed , and i end up wasting a lot of my time.Privacy concerns were an issue sometime back, however the websites have taken endless steps to customize these issues according to personal need. Also , online networking reduces the need of personal interactions or phone calls , I don't know if it is good or bad but somewhere down lane you lose the personal touch.

FACEBOOK : I think facebook is one social networking site that has members from every country on this earth. It started as a youth connecting source but now it seems a global 'must have' for nearly everyone. It is a great source of connecting and reconnecting with friends and acquaintances. It never lets you get bored as it is constantly updated with newer ideas for attraction. There is an option to express your feelings , add photo's or video's for your friends to view and comment on , gives reminders for special occasions such as birthday's , chatting. The latest trend is that 'groups' , however, some of them are extremely random, there are some that are very informative , there are companies who engage in online marketing as well.
For all the facebook addicts out there : There are rumors that soon you would have to pay for accessing your accounts.
Lets see how many people would be willing to do so!!!

Twitter : A blend of 'a typical social networking site' and a blog. The messages are known as tweets and are uniquely restricted to 140 words. It is gaining great popularity for the different concept of blogging.

Orkut : Orkut is a google product and another very popular networking site , with similar concept such as facebook. It is more appreciated in India , which is why it lags behind on an international level.

MySpace : MySpace differentiated itself from competitors by allowing users to completely customize the look of their profiles. Users could also post music from artists on MySpace and embed videos from other sites on their profiles. However , this concept was later followed by many others.

Friendster : It was really the first modern, general social network. Founded in 2002, Friendster is still a very active social network, with over 90 million registered users and 60+ million unique visitors each month.

Friendster and Myspace were at once the most popular networking sites , but were soon left behind with facebook coming in. To think of it, what was that different about facebook that it has become a part of the daily activity.

The idea of connecting with people through letters , seems to be an age old fashion. Social media has become an integral part of modern society. Even though it has existed for very long ,  it has only recently become part of mainstream culture and the business world, people have been using digital media for networking, socializing , information gathering and for various other reasons."There are general social networks with user bases larger than the population of most countries."There are sites to share photos, videos, status updates, sites for meeting new people and sites to connect with old friends. It seems there are social solutions to just about every need. The social networking sites have become a lot more than just a source of connecting , it is a "must have" trend for the youth. Initially the    'networking sites' were labelled as dating sites. However, over the past few years the concept has changed and gained a broadened acceptability.
